Hoodo Mohamed

Hoodo Mohamed is another exceptional member of the Barwaaqo University Class of 2021. Originally from the capital city of Hargeisa, Hoodo is the second youngest of six children. She first became interested in education when teachers at an Islamic program she attended noticed her talent and began having her teach the younger children. Hoodo believes that one of the biggest issues facing Somaliland today is the lack of girls attending schools because parents prefer to educate their sons while the daughters remain at home and typically marry young. Hoodo wishes to break this cycle by teaching young girls and women about the importance of education.

Hoodo’s biggest inspiration is her father, who has always worked hard to support the family and encouraged his daughters to become educated themselves. It is thanks to her father and the support system she discovered at Barwaaqo that Hoodo was able to overcome the cultural pressure not to study education and successfully receive her bachelor’s degree. After Barwaaqo Hoodo would like to teach at Kaabe Primary Schools and continue her education by studying accounting, finance, and management.
